Under the direct supervision of the NSA, the LVN Staff Nurse is responsible for providing direct or indirect nursing care services in one or more Women’s Health centers within the Golden Valley Health Centers system utilizing evidence based nursing practices. This responsibility includes providing care management for moderate to high risk OB patients, triage services as needed, and acting as a patient advocate to ensure a safe, culturally sensitive, aesthetically appropriate environment of care. Of particular importance is an emphasis on continuous quality improvement, continuous learning and establishment of strong, resilient teamwork. This position may require travel between GVHC sites.
Under direction of the Director of Nursing, NSA and Women’s Health Associate Medical Director (AMD); the LVN Staff Nurse for Women’s Health will:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following is used as a partial description and is not restrictive as to duties required)
1. Support and implement the Mission, Vision and Values of Golden Valley Health Centers.
2. Comprehensively assess OB/GYN patients and collaborate w/ treating physicians.
3. Develop, implement and evaluate care plans utilizing evidence based practices and standardized guidelines.
4. Perform non-stress tests and amniotic fluid indexes per high risk OB protocol and monitor patients while conducting such tests.
5. Screen peri-natal lab results and facilitate appropriate continuation of care or further diagnostic testing per established guidelines.
6. Provide patient specific education in regard to Gestational Diabetes, teach self-management skills, and monitor patients as a Sweet Success program associate.
7. Provide triage and phone advice as well as initiate emergency care as needed.
8. Acts as a resource in regard to Women’s Health related issues.
9. Ensure age and culturally competent care as well as continuity of care.
10. Promote patient safety and maintain equipment for proper function.
11. Comply with mandated reporting and consent procedures as required.
12. Document patient care activities in the patient’s medical record per established policies and procedures.
13. Provide case management services including referrals to peri-natology, labor and delivery, and other specialists as appropriate.
14. Seek further training in Women’s Health Care subjects.
15. Attend designated meetings, participate in assigned committees and taskforces, and participate in Quality Improvement activities.
16. Appropriately refer patients to GVHC’s Health Education, CPSP, FPACT, or community resources.
17. Work in collaboration with the Health Promotions Department.
18. Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

1. LVN licensure in state of California.
2. Minimum of three years experience in health care or related field.
3. Supervisory experience preferred.
4. Ability to relate in a professional manner and handle confidential information.
5. Must be organized.
6. Must exhibit good organizational skills.
7. Must be able to handle multiple priorities to meet established deadlines.
8. Must have computer knowledge and skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push up to 100 pounds (on wheels).
2. Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.
3. Must be able to have vision that is adequate to read memos, a computer screen, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
4. Must have high manual dexterity.
5. Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting/turning, fingering and feeling.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
