Under the general supervision of the Culture Broker Coordinator the Culture Broker will work in a team environment on various projects and assignments. Projects include community outreach, referral to community resources, and ongoing mental health education to the Merced County community members and their families. The Culture Broker (Promotor or Promotora) will provide linguistically- and culturally-appropriate mental health education and outreach to Merced County.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following is used as a partial description and is not restrictive as to duties required.)
MANAGERIAL/ADMINISTRATIVE
1. In collaboration with the Culture Broker Coordinator, is responsible for setting and attaining program goals and objectives.
2. Carry out mental health education/presentations in various community locations including community events, health fairs, and other locations as assigned by the Culture Broker Coordinator.
3. Provide mental health and other informational workshops focused on awareness, stress reduction, and resources to Merced County residents and their families.
4. Assists community members and their families in accessing mental health primary care services and staying in treatment.
5. Collaborate and develop relationships with community partners to increase awareness for mental health and reduce the barriers and stigma.
6. Responsible for phone follow-ups with patients who did not keep their initial or follow-up appointment with a Golden Valley Health Center behavioral health clinician.
7. Collects and enters accurate data on all outreach activities; produces accurate and timely reports as requested.
8. Provides verbal and written feedback to Culture Broker regarding progress of outreach activities.
9. Other duties and or special projects as required.

Knowledge of:
1. A wide variety and type of community resources within Merced County.
Ability to:
1. Provide one-on-one and group educational presentations and information based on community need.
2. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
3. Ability to work in a team oriented atmosphere.
4. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
5. Ability to work in a flexible environment, hours as scheduled, which may include Saturdays, evenings or extended hours.
6. Must be a flexible individual, interested in a variety of work situations and willing to travel.
Training and Experience:
1. Minimum of high school or equivalent preferred.
2. Has demonstrated community skills in the community.
3. Have a high level of relationship building skills.
4. One or more years of outreach experience desired.
5. Health education and adult education skills preferred.
6. Strong organization and communication skills desired.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English required.
2. Have a valid CA State Drivers license and insurable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push up to 100 pounds (on wheels).
2. Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.
3. Must have vision with or without lenses that is adequate to read memos, a computer screen, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
4. Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting/turning, fingering and feeling.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually average, but can be loud during outreach activities.
