Planada Health Center to Reopen for Community Medical Care

After several months of flood restoration work, Golden Valley Health Centers (GVHC) will reopen the Planada Medical Clinic on June 1.

Following severe storm damage and flooding in January, the Merced County Office of Emergency Services mandated evacuations of Planada residents. More than 4,000 people were displaced, roads and businesses were closed for the safety of the community. GVHC’s Planada clinic was among the businesses ravaged by floodwaters. As the only medical clinic in Planada, GVHC pivoted to continue providing services ranging from emergency first aid, offered at the temporary shelter site (Merced County Fairgrounds), to providing water, baby formula and mobilizing a Healthcare services van, parked at the clinic to provide urgent care.

Working with local nonprofit partners, GVHC Community Health Workers set up at the Planada Community Center in the wind and rain. They distributed water, dental kits, and basic household supplies to residents who were in need. Clinical staff and nursing teams set up tables and offered basic medical care and services.

The Golden Valley Health Centers Foundation launched a donation drive, which raised funds and collected everyday household items that many Planada residents had lost. When disaster struck, GVHC was there for our Planada community members.

After several months of necessary restoration work at the Planada medical clinic, the doors will reopen on June 1 for patient care. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm.
